Suspense to First Pitch

As I escape from my car, I can just feel the atmosphere of the Arkansas Razorback baseball Stadium, aka. “Baum Stadium”. The crowd is heard from a mile away. I began to walk towards the outfield where all of the students enter the game and observe everyone pulling ice chest filled with cold beverages. Baum stadium is unique in its own way; it is the only college baseball stadium to allow people to bring their own coolers into the outfield. After entering the stadium I can’t help but notice the smell of sizzling hotdogs and hamburgers coming from the open flamed grills. The sounds of people chanting and the mumbling of the announcer comes over the intercom saying “Gentlemen, can you please remove your ball caps for the National Anthem”, everything immediately comes to a dead silence, to the point where you could hear a penny drop. The National Anthem begins and as I look around, I notice some people singing along, while others stand silent with their hands over their hearts. What a beautiful sight, a cloud of Razorback red fills the stands. When the song comes to an end the crowd erupts, while the Arkansas razorback fight song comes blaring over the intercom. The Hog’s take their last few warm ups, while everyone adjusts their seat and pours a fresh cold beverage before the first pitch is thrown. The pitcher set’s in for his first pitch, while the crowd comes to silent. Pop, the sound of the baseball flying into the leather catcher’s mitt is heard from the outfield, "STRIIIKE", the umpire yells and the crowd comes unglued as the Razorback’s try to advance their winning streak to 11 straight games.

# 4 Ranked Razorbacks

Tuesday night was a great night for Razorback baseball. The 65 degree weather and clear sky’s made it worth watching the hog’s beat Oral Robert’s 9-5. They continued their win streak to 11 straight games, which is very impressive. The past 2 weeks have been outstanding for the diamond hog’s, consisting of sweeps over Mississippi State and the Georgia bulldogs.
Collin Kuhn has really developed as a outstanding leadoff batter. Not only has he proven he has the speed to steal bases (15 of 15), he currently has the 2nd highest batting average on the team (.392). Usually a leadoff hitter does not possess a lot of power, however; Kuhn is the opposite, he has blasted 8 homeruns and 31 RBI’s.
Another player who has really heated up is starting pitcher/centerfielder Brett Eibner. Brett leads the team with 44 RBI’s while also hitting 13 homeruns.
These two players are great ball players and will be extremely important in the next few weeks as the razorbacks head into tough series within the S E C. This weekend the hogs will travel to Gainesville, Florida, where they will take on a very good Florida Gator team, Support your Hog’s.
Game time: Friday 6:35 Arkansas(4) vs. Florida (8)

Home Series

This past Easter weekend, was an emotional one for the Arkansas Razorback baseball team. The Kentucky wildcats came into Baum Stadium Friday night with a chip on their shoulders. They smashed Arkansas’s Friday night starter Mike Bolsinger, who was given an early exit after surrendering 8 runs to the Kentucky lineup, in just 3 innings of work. The hog’s answered back with 8 runs; however, it was not enough to give the hogs the win. The Razorbacks lost 12-7 giving them their first Friday night S E C lose this year.
Saturday was a different story. Drew Smly held the Kentucky Wildcats to just 4 hits and one run. The Hogs came out swinging posting 17 hits and 10 runs almost exactly the same as what the wildcats did to the hog’s Friday night. The hogs finished the game winning 10-1. It was a complete game with solid pitching and hitting.
Sunday was the big game that would break the series. Brett Eibner started out pitching giving the hogs a poor showing. The Wildcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead, which looked like a repeat of Friday night’s game. The hog’s answered back scoring 7 runs, which went back and forth throughout the game. The Hogs entered the bottom of the 9th inning losing 13 to 16. The hogs got a break in the 9th inning loading the bases. With 2 outs and 2 strikes, Collin Kuhn delivered a clutch walk off grand slam, which bolted the hogs to a victory, winning 17-16.
The Hog’s proved that they will not lie down and give up. Sunday’s victory shows how much heart this team has. This is the kind of test the razorback’s need, which can help tremendously in the long run. The Razorback baseball team had some shake ups this weekend. The Hog’s big slugger Andy Wilkin’s, suffered a pulled hamstring, forcing him out for 10 days. Coach Van Horn also stated that Mike Bolsinger will no longer be the Friday night pitcher and will be placed as a reliever in the bullpen. The Hog’s are looking to keep winning as they travel to Mississippi St. for another road test next weekend.

S E C play

After 2 weeks of S E C play the razorback baseball team has proved to be very competitive. The first weekend of conference play took place the weekend of March 19th where the hogs traveled to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to play the Defending National champions, “LSU tigers”. The weekend started off quite well for the hogs jumping out to a well played victory on Friday night. Mike Bolsinger got the win, who has developed to be the razorback’s number 1 Friday night pitcher. The player of the game was Brett Eibner, who showcased his power adding 2 homeruns and 4 Rbi’s to his stats. The following two games against LSU did not work out as the razorbacks hoped, leaving the series, losing 2 out of the three games. The hogs let game 2 slip away allowing 7 runs in the 7th inning. Against a good baseball team like LSU you cannot let mistakes take advantage of you. The hogs got there first road test and learned a lot about their baseball team in Louisiana.
Letting the series to Lsu slip away was a learning experience for the team. They proved to bounce back the following weekend when the Alabama Crimson Tide, came into town. The razorbacks came from behind in the first 2 games helping to complete a 3 game sweep against the # 20 ranked Crimson Tide. What a huge sweep this was for the razorbacks. Coming from behind in the 2 games showed great competition and proved to the Hog fans, that there baseball team is not going to give up. They know their offense is strong and can explode at anytime. The star of the series was Zack Cox, who was elected by the South Eastern Conference, as the S E C player of the week. Cox displays a .435 batting average which is 2nd in the entire league. The # 10 Razorbacks want to keep their momentum rolling, as they play host to Centenary in a midweek series Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Razorback Baseball"

The beginning of March is approaching and for all of you Razorback baseball fans, you know exactly what is about to begin. It is that time of the year where we will begin to cheer our razorback baseball team "Back" to the college World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. In my blogs, I am going to be following the arkansas Razorback baseball team, while reporting and discussing certain issues that arise throughout the season, and also summarizing up where the razorbacks stand after certain match ups during the Months of March April and May. The purpose for my blog is for those that are interested in arkansas baseball to tune in and receive up to date information about the team.

After comming of a trip to the college world series, the razorback baseball team has a couple of question marks throughout their lineup. One of the biggest concern's is the starting pitching rotation. We can count on Mike Bolsinger, Brett Eibner, Drew Smyly and T.J. Forrest all to be involved in the weekend rotation. The Razorback's should be loaded on offense as they return slugger's Andy Wilkins, Zack Cox, Brett Eibner and Collin Kuhn. This young team has a lot to prove, As the season moves on i will report how the lineup develops and who emerges to be the impact players for the arkansas razorbacks.
